Short of a railway or other mass transit system, Phuket’s infrastructure includes the scenic north-south route linking the popular west coast beaches like Nai Yang, Nai Ton, Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon up to Kata. The road rounds off the southern tip at Laem Promthep, viewpoint of the famous Phuket Sunset, meanders past fishing villages in Rawai before moving north again along the east/central part of the island.

From Rawai, the road connects Chalong Bay where it branches off in four directions! One of which will take you to Wat Chalong, the historic Buddhist temple, another straight on to the Town Center.

Leaving Phuket Town (Muang), you travel north on Thepkasatree Road en route to the Airport and further on to Sarasin Bridge which connects the island to Phang Nga on the mainland. There is a direct link between the Town and Patong beach across the central hilly region, a distance of about 25km.

Public transportation includes mini-vans (Phuket Tuk-tuks), “motorcycle-taxis”, local traditional buses (“song tiaw”) and the regular town buses plus the odd taxicab or two ;) . Of course, you could rent a car or motorcycle or even a bicycle to get around! Traffic is moderate and we drive on the left side.
